Pantry Burgers

I know. You’re asking why I’ve even bothered making a burger recipe when there are so many incredible options on the market. Well… for one, those burgers are hella expensive and two, sometimes I just like to make my own burger. Usually when I do, I like to use lentils, but for this recipe, red kidney beans are my go to. Although not quite as “meaty” as the Beyond, Impossible and the like, the TVP in this recipe does a good job in adding a bit of chew to this burger.

  • 1/4 tsp. salt

BuTter Me Up

I don’t know about you, but I love my buns buttered and toasted- for maximum burger deliciousness.

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, add soaked TVP, mashed beans, spices, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke and 3 tablespoons of oil, mix well.

  2. Add flour and crushed onion strings and mix all the ingredients until fully incorporated.

  3. In the bowl, score the mixture with a knife (or your hand) into four even sections.

  4. Take each section and form a patty.

  5. Heat a large pan on medium high and add remaining tablespoon of oil when pan is hot.

  6. When oil is hot and ready, add patties and cook 2- 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  7. Put patties on cookie sheet and place in oven for 10-15 minutes (depending on your oven).

  8. I like to toast my buns in butter and toppings like cheese, avocado, pickled onions, lettuce and tomatoes. These patties are also good with bbq sauce (see quick recipe here). But you know, you do you boo.

As always, I hope you try this recipe out. What’s your favorite burger recipe? Do you use beans or do you go all out with wheat gluten and pea protein? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for taking the time-
